sonia's story

Before becoming a massage therapist, Sonia spent 13 years as a classical Indian dancer with the Kathak Dance Theater of Minnesota. The grace, discipline, and deep body awareness she cultivated during this time laid the foundation for her healing path. She graduated early from high school in 2002 and went on to study at the flagship Aveda Institute, where she graduated top of her class and was invited to speak at the 2003 Aveda Congress as the student representative.

Her journey took her from a humble life in Minneapolis to the fast pace of New York City, where she worked under renowned hairstylist Nick Arrojo. But despite the creative energy of the beauty industry, Sonia found herself yearning for something deeper — a more meaningful connection to the human body and spirit.

That calling led her to San Diego, where she completed her education in esthetics and massage therapy. From there, her path unfolded globally. She practiced at beloved local spas like Soothe Spa in San Francisco, while also traveling and training in wellness destinations across Thailand, Vietnam, and India — studying yoga, Thai massage, energy work, and body philosophy.

Today, Sonia lives and works in Los Angeles, offering private massage therapy sessions through her business, homebody LA — serving clients in Santa Monica, Culver City, Marina Del Rey, Playa Vista, and Playa Del Rey.

Her signature sessions are rooted in the following modalities:

  • Thai Massage & Dynamic Stretching – passive movement techniques to lengthen muscles and improve mobility

  • Deep Tissue & Cupping Therapy – for chronic tension, injury support, and detoxification

  • Theragun Percussive Therapy – targeted relief for sore muscles and fascial tightness

  • Sound Therapy & Guided Breathwork – nervous system reset through vibration and conscious breathing

Whether you're holding physical pain, emotional grief, or simply longing to feel more present in your own body, Sonia creates a safe, nurturing space to help you reconnect.

At homebody, the goal is not perfection — it's permission. Permission to rest, to feel, to soften, to heal.
